Dr Nicholas Holmes

Lab Head since September 2009

Nick studies the perception of and actions made with the hand, examining, for example, how people know where their hands are and which hands are theirs. This seems like an easy thing for people to do, but lots of fascinating illusions and neuropsychological disorders show that this is in fact very complex. He also examines how people make rapid hand movements to reach, grasp, catch, and avoid objects. He is interested in how rapidly the brain can control hand movements using information from the different senses.
